Maritime drug trafficking and smuggling are serious global problems. Both cartels and organized crime groups use ships every day to transport large amounts of drugs and narcotics around the world. The value of the illegal drug trade is estimated at hundreds of billions of dollars annually.
Siem Shipping regularly organizes seminars on this topic. Such meeting took place at SUBSEA 7’s headquarters in Sutton on March 15.
The scope of the discussion covered the broadly understood problem of drug smuggling, and the speakers, in addition to representatives of the SIEM group, included:
– Phoenix Security of USA and Central America
– UK Border Intelligence
– Netherlands Customs
– Antwerp Drug Police
– Europol Strategic Analysis Team, and others
The seminar and the workshop held during it were a very good moment to share experiences regarding this difficult topic with the participants.
